JOON NO'S TAEKWONDO

The Classes

Joon No’s Taekwondo  (also known as JNTKD ) was established in 1981 with an emphasis on personalised tuition and high standards operating several schools in the Melbourne area for over 40 years, including Bayside, Eastern and Southern suburbs.

All ages and levels are catered for:

  • From 3 years old to veterans.
  • From those wanting to train for recreation and fitness to those with aspirations to represent Australia in the Olympics.

Classes comprise all aspects of taekwondo – TKD formwork, sparring and board breaking – and go further to include realistic self-defence and other martial arts techniques.

Joon No teaches personally at Bentleigh, Brighton, Doncaster and Kew. The branch clubs (Westmeadows, Leongatha and Glen Waverley) are managed by his instructors.

What is a Blackbelt?

Our program guides and facilitates all students to reach blackbelt standard. Students are not just awarded a black belt – they become a Blackbelt.

Originally, there were no coloured belts – just white-belt (no rank) then, after months of daily, intensive training, they would attain 1st Dan black belt (the lowest rank) – comparable to graduating from primary school.

When martial arts were first introduced to the West, there was no intensive or dedicated training, with students often attending only once or twice a week, and not always with an experienced instructor. Discipline and determination were often in short supply – so a range of coloured belt grades was introduced to encourage students along their slow path to Blackbelt. We must understand that the minimum functional standard is 1st degree Blackbelt (1st Dan for seniors, 1stPoom for juniors) – and our aim is to assist all students to achieve that.

Grandmaster Joon No 9th Dan

Grandmaster Joon No is recognised the world over as a highly respected instructor. For over five decades he has taught the authentic skills of taekwondo and has produced hundreds of champions who represented Australia in international competition.

He holds high rank in both judo and taekwondo and is able to offer uniquely effective self-defence and martial arts training to his students. He instructs personally in all classes, and every student is trained to reach their potential, be it as a competitor or as a skilled taekwondo practitioner.
