Tests for promotion to a higher grade are conducted four times a year. Grades are represented by different colour belts, with coloured belt grades being called “Gup” and the various ranks of black belt being called “Dan” for seniors, and “Poom” for juniors. Students need to train regularly to reach their potential and be eligible for a promotion, and not every student will be promoted at every grading. Students aspiring to Dan/Poom promotions must attend Blackbelt Training with Grandmaster No. There are training and time requirements that must be met before being approved for promotion.
2026 Schedule for Grading Examinations
Applications forms, fees and grading cards should be placed in a named envelope and
submitted ONE WEEK BEFORE THE GRADING.
White belts will be issued with a grading card after the grading.

This is a fun event. Students are given oodles of support and instruction in a relaxed atmosphere. It is an important part of their development, introducing them to the competition situation, and is designed to foster confidence and familiarity to ensure students develop practical skills and are not anxious about sparring.
The sparring challenge is held in each month, once each at Doncaster and Brighton. All members should participate. Protective equipment must be worn:
· Mouthguards (available from a chemist)
· Shin and arm guards, groin guards and helmet are available at the club
· Electronic hogu(body protectors) are provided by the club.
